Reports to: Subject Leader of DramaResponsibilities: Teaching Drama to Years 7-13 (including IGCSE and IBDP) and Music to Years 7-9, providing opportunities for Drama and Music outside of lessons and making a significant contribution to the extra-curricular programme. Taking on the role of a form tutor in BST’s vertical pastoral system. The Drama and Music DepartmentsThe Drama and Music departments at BST are both well-established and operate as distinct departments, each staffed by two full-time specialist teachers. Both are housed in a dedicated, recently redeveloped area that supports high-quality teaching, rehearsal, and performance. At Key Stage 3, both subjects follow internally designed curricula that build strong foundations for progression into Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. At examination level, students study Cambridge IGCSE in Drama and Music, followed by the IBDP where both Theatre and Music are offered at Standard and Higher Level. The co-curricular programme is a central strength of the school, with Drama and Music playing a leading role in productions, concerts, and wider performance opportunities. Student outcomes in external examinations are consistently strong, and many graduates go on to study at prestigious drama schools and music institutions in the UK and internationally.The role would suit an enthusiastic teacher with a passion for Drama and Music, who understands the use of effective evidence-informed pedagogical strategies, has extensive subject knowledge to facilitate challenge for all students and has experience with mixed ability classes. We require a supportive colleague who is collaborative and reflective in their approach and willing to go that extra mile. A strong commitment to extracurricular Drama and Music performances and clubs before/after school is a significant expectation of this position. Key Areas of Responsibility Teaching and LearningIn liaison with, and under guidance from the Subject Leaders of Drama and Music, plan and teach lessons and units of work at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.Be an exemplary teacher, clearly demonstrating effective planning, teaching organisation, and demanding high standards of attainment and behaviour in all lessonsUse evidence-informed strategies to plan and deliver lessons that promote progress and challenge for all studentsGuide students to reflect on the progress they have made and their emerging needsGive students regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage students to respond to the feedback.Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessonsMonitor individual student achievement and respond accordinglyHave a secure knowledge of the relevant subject and curriculum areas, foster and maintain students’ interest in the subject, and address misunderstandingsHave high expectations of behaviour, and establish a framework for adhering to the school’s code of conductContribute to the relevant sections of the school’s evaluation and improvement documentationAttend and participate in regular meetingsTake responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development, responding to advice and feedback from colleagues Other rolesA strong commitment to coordinating and contributing to evening and/or weekend events organised by the Music and Drama departments.Deliver assigned Wednesday afternoon Explore sessions, Duke of Edinburgh or Life SkillsComplete duties around the school in accordance with the weekly
