This post offers the opportunity to teach Design and Technology to IGCSE and A Level. As an independent school, a PGCE is not necessary for teaching at Christ’s Hospital, and we would consider recent graduates who are interested in the profession. The successful applicant will be a well-qualified and capable graduate with an enthusiasm for the teaching of Design and Technology in a large co-educational boarding school. Innovation, flair and vision will be highly valued, as will the ability to inspire pupils both in and out of the classroom. The department focuses on IGCSE (CIE) DT Product Design with Resistant Materials and Graphic Products options, and Product Design (AQA) at A level. Whilst we would encourage applicants from diverse subject experience and backgrounds, we are especially interested in applicants who can evidence workshop experience and practical skills. Applicants must have a passion for inspiring and developing iterative, creative, practical and experimental problem-solving approaches in children. An interest and some experience in CAD software is desirable. The department offers a range of co-curricular activities, and we are constantly looking to innovate and add to the offering.Up to £49,622 per annum depending on the experience of the person appointedThe Doyle School of Design and Technology is a thriving and respected department with a team of four teachers, a designer in residence and a senior technician. The team is very friendly and supportive in cooperatively developing and delivering our exciting curriculum.All pupils at Christ’s Hospital take the subject in Years 7 and 8, completing a project-based curriculum aimed at developing core practical and design skills. The subject is very popular at exam levels, often with over half of our KS4 opting for the subject. We follow the CAIE Design and Technology specification with pupils choosing either the Resistant Materials or Graphic Products routes from year 9.At KS5 we typically have between 10 and 20 per year group taking the AQA Product Design A level with significant numbers then opting for degrees in design, engineering or architecture.The department is extremely well resourced with three extensively equipped multi-material workshops, a CAD/CAM suite that includes a large laser, a CNC router, a lathe/mill machine centre, a CNC plasma cutter and A1 vinyl cutter. There is also a 3D printing lab. There is also a dedicated foundry building.Design work is supported through three studio spaces, two of which are equipped with PC workstations running a range of CAD, DTP and design software.
