We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and confident Sports Assistant keen to support children in their physical education. Under the direction of the Head of PE, Sports & Physical Wellbeing, you will provide support to the Sports and PE Department in the delivery of all aspects of the PE and Games curriculum, including assisting with lessons, clubs, practices and fixtures for Year 1 to Year 9 pupils.This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a genuine passion for sports and sports coaching, looking to gain relevant experience either prior to or post completing higher education. The post would be particularly appropriate for a candidate who is contemplating a career in an education setting or as a sports coach.With a positive and flexible disposition and a nurturing approach to supporting children’s learning, you will be child-focused, professional and approachable with a strong focus on teamwork and a willingness to get involved and support the wider School as required.Safeguarding knowledge, the ability to follow instructions, and effective communication with both children and colleagues are all essential and will be assessed during interview.Hours: 40 hours per week (8:30am – 5:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid break) with flexibility to work beyond 5:00pm to support with fixtures.Working Weeks: 41 weeks per year (35 term-time weeks, including INSET days, plus six additional weeks to support with holiday club).The PersonThe key skills and qualities of the role are as follows.EssentialAn enthusiasm for sports, with an encouraging and motivational approach to learningAble to demonstrate a genuine passion for sports and sporting activities, with an interest in sports coachingPrevious experience working with children (this may include volunteering)Excellent communication skills with the ability to establish rapport with pupils, parents and colleaguesA positive, flexible and supportive team memberIn possession of a valid Paediatric First Aid qualification or a willingness to obtain this via the SchoolGood ICT skillsA willingness to support and engage in the whole life of the SchoolDesirableHolds a valid sports/sports coaching qualification or is working towards oneA relevant childcare-related qualification would be advantageous but not essentialThe SchoolHallfield School is a flourishing co-educational independent day school (3 months – 14 years) in the leafy and attractive outskirts of Edgbaston.
