The Head and Governing Body of Hymers College, a leading independent day school in East Yorkshire, are looking to appoint an outstanding Bursar (Director of Finance & Operations) to lead all business related aspects of the organisation.Located on a leafy campus of 45 acres, Hymers is a selective, academic school of 900 pupils. The School offers a range of benefits of service and in collaboration with Optimus Education, Hymers has achieved a Wellbeing Award for the whole school.The Bursar will manage the financial, operational and commercial affairs of the school, providing strong leadership to a diverse team of support staff. As a critical member of the School’s Senior Leadership Team, the Bursar will be joining an ambitious and highly successful organisation as it sets out on the next stage of its development.Purpose of the Role:Responsible to the Board of Governors through the Head, providing strong leadership for all business-related aspects of the organisation.Leadership of the School’s financial affairs, the estate and facilities such as catering, human resources, regulatory compliance, ICT and Health & Safety. Act as company secretary of three subsidiary companies and serve on and prepare papers for various committees and the Board.As a member of the Core Senior Leadership Team, to play a crucial role in the School’s ambition to develop and promote an outstanding all-through education from ages 3 to 18.Work closely with other members of the Leadership Team to contribute to the success in achieving the School’s ongoing strategy and development initiatives.Key Responsibilities and Competencies:The Bursar has overall responsibility for all support aspects of the school including Finance, Operations, HR and Compliance, IT, Catering, Legal and Company Secretarial.The role reports into the Head on a day-to-day basis but additionally works closely with the Chair of Finance & Property and attends a number of Governor sub-committees (currently Finance & General Purposes, Governance, Health & Safety, Remuneration) and working groups as well as Full Board meetings.This is a very broad and varied role with evolving priorities and responsibilities and the Bursar will be expected to make well-considered contributions to SLT and Governor discussion on the wider school strategy and development.The key responsibilities of this role are currently summarised as:(i) Financial planning and business management of the School, including its commercial operations(ii) Support staff recruitment and management(iii) Compliance(iv) Health & Safety(v) Site and Estates ManagementThis role requires a commercial and financially literate general manager, a strong people-person keen to immerse themselves in the school community and lead the school as a key
