Verita International School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join our dynamic team. As the SENCO, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the support and accommodations they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership:Develop and implement the school’s SEND policy in line with statutory requirements and best practices.Lead the SEND team, providing guidance and support to ensure effective provision for students with SEND.Work collaboratively with senior leadership, SST (student support team), teachers, and other staff to promote an inclusive ethos throughout the school.Assessment and Identification:Oversee the identification and assessment of students with SEND, ensuring timely and accurate identification through collaboration with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies.Coordinate the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and individualized learning plans (ILPs), and support strategies based on thorough assessments and in consultation with relevant stakeholders.The candidate should have experience with writing IEPs, ILPs, collaboration with teachers, parents, and students as well as applying for examination accommodations for high school students with exam boards. Experience in IGCSE and IB DP is beneficial.Intervention and Support:Design and oversee and conduct group interventions and support programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with SEND, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based and monitored for effectiveness.Provide guidance and training to teaching staff on differentiated teaching strategies, accommodations, and assistive technologies to support students with SEND in accessing the curriculum.Collaboration and Partnership:Foster positive relationships with parents/carers of students with SEND, ensuring effective communication and collaboration to support student progress and well-being.Liaise with external agencies, including educational psychologists, health professionals, and local authorities, to access additional support services and resources for students with SEND, in collaboration with the student support team (SST).Professional Development:Keep abreast of current legislation, research, and best practices in the field of special education, and disseminate relevant information to staff to ensure continuous improvement in provision for students with SEND.Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEND.Qualifications and Experience:In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, policies, and best practices.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize workload effectively.Experience in conducting assessments, developing individualized support plans, and implementing interventions for students with SEND.Commitment to promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.If you are interested in joining our wonderful and fast-growing community focused on compassion and student-entered learning, we would like to chat with you!
