Job Title: Biology TeacherReports to: KS Coordinator Department & School: Teaching / Broadoaks British SchoolJOB PURPOSETo deliver high-quality Biology education to students, fostering academic excellence, curiosity and critical thinking.OVERVIEW OF THE ROLEThe Biology Teacher will plan, teach, and assess Biology lessons to students across various age ranges and ability levels, promoting engaging and interactive learning experiences.RELATIONSHIPSThe Biology teacher is selected by the Director of Schools in consultation with the HOS/KSC and HR.The Biology teacher will report directly to the KS Coordinator. However, in the absence of the KSC, he/she will report to the HOS/DHOS who will also provide strategic leadership and day to day oversight. The Biology teacher works closely with other teachers, support teachers (SEN), students; and collaborates with parents/guardians, external exam boards and educational resource providers where required.RESPONSIBILITIESPlan and deliver engaging Biology lessons for students Set and mark assignments, assessments, and exams, providing constructive feedbackMonitor student progress, identifying areas for improvement and adapting teaching strategiesDevelop and implement curriculum plans, schemes of work, and departmental policiesProvide pastoral support and guidance to studentsParticipate in departmental meetings, sharing best practices and contributing to faculty developmentStay up-to-date with scientific developments and teaching methodologiesManage laboratory resources, equipment, and safety proceduresSAFEGUARDING Broadoaks British School is committed to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of all children and young people in our care. Assessment, Recording and ReportingAssess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use outcomes to adapt teaching accordingly;Provide quality marking and feedback and identify clear targets for future learning as appropriateCarry out assessment cycles (e.g., collection of effort and attainment assessments, reports) as agreed by the school.Be familiar with the Code of Practice for identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs and keep appropriate records on Individual Education Plans for pupils.QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCEQualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ TRCNBachelor’s degree in Biology/Science or a related fieldPostgraduate teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, PGDE)Experience teaching Biology in a British secondary school or similar educational settingStrong knowledge of the National Curriculum and GCSE/A-level science specificationsExcellent teaching, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs and abilitiesExperience with extracurricular science programmes and competitions is desirableWORKING LANGUAGEEnglishWORKING HOURSMonday through Friday from 7.20am to 4.00pm; work on selected Saturdays may be required to cover staff training and community outreach.LOCATIONAbuja, Nigeria
