Bring Biology to life.We are seeking to appoint an experienced Biology Teacher for a maternity cover position from September 2026. The successful candidate will be able to teach Biology from Year 7 through to A Level and will join a happy, experienced and highly successful Science department.Working closely with the Head of Biology, you will play a key role in supporting student progress across the School, contributing to engaging schemes of learning and helping to ensure the continued development of a rich and challenging curriculum.This role will also involve supporting the wider life of the department, including lunchtime clubs, trips, national competitions and other enrichment opportunities that bring science to life beyond the classroom.We are looking for an inspiring and committed teacher with energy, vision and a strong track record of delivering excellent academic outcomes. The successful candidate will bring a positive, ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to contribute fully to both department life and the wider ethos of the School.About the DepartmentThe Biology department is part of a thriving Science faculty and consists of three specialist teachers, supported by a strong team of experienced science technicians. Teaching takes place in four dedicated biology classrooms within a well-equipped specialist science building.All rooms are fitted with interactive 80” screens, teacher cameras and visualisers, supporting high-quality teaching and learning. Staff also benefit from a wide range of resources, including textbooks, online materials and ExamPro, alongside collaboratively developed schemes of work hosted on Firefly.The department works closely as a team, sharing expertise to deliver consistently high-quality lessons and a well-sequenced curriculum.At Key Stage 3, students follow the AQA specification across Years 7 and 8, developing strong foundations in biological concepts.At Key Stage 4, Biology is a popular GCSE option, following AQA GCSE Biology (9–1), taught in specialist, mixed-ability groups.The School also offers Level 3 BTEC Applied Science.At Key Stage 5, Biology is a highly popular A Level subject, with typically two groups following the AQA A Level Biology specification.The Wider Role:As a Teacher at Wellington, there is an expectation to provide strong pastoral care, demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding, and take an active role in the wider life of the School.
