Assistant Head Pastoral- Primary- The Royal Grammar School Guildford QatarThe Royal Grammar School Guildford Qatar (RGSGQ) is a through school from EY1 to Year 12. The Primary School has a thriving three- to four-form entry with approximately 570 pupils.Purpose of the roleThe Assistant Head of Primary (Pastoral) for EY1 to Year 2 will lead and promote a nurturing, inclusive and supportive environment for the youngest pupils in the school. Working closely with the Deputy Head (Pastoral), the post holder will ensure that high standards of safeguarding, behaviours and wellbeing are consistently embedded across the Early Years and Key Stage 1.The role includes oversight of safeguarding procedures within EYFS and KS1, ensuring that policies are rigorously implemented and that all staff remain vigilant and well trained. The Assistant Head will act as a key point of contact for pastoral concerns, supporting staff and liaising with parents and external agencies where appropriate.The successful candidate will lead on behaviors across EY1 to Year 2, supporting staff in implementing consistent, developmentally appropriate approaches that promote positive behaviors, emotional regulation and strong relationships. They will champion a proactive and restorative ethos, ensuring that children feel safe, secure and ready to learn.In addition, the role involves monitoring pupil wellbeing, attendance and engagement, using pastoral insight and data to identify emerging needs and implement early intervention strategies. The Assistant Head will support staff development in areas such as behaviour management, safeguarding and early years pastoral care.The Assistant Head (Pastoral) will be a visible, approachable and caring leader, with a strong understanding of early childhood development, committed to ensuring that all children have a positive and secure start to their school journey.This is a class-based role with designated non-contact time to enable the effective fulfilment of additional professional and leadership responsibilities.RGSGQ is a vibrant and happy learning community where creativity, innovation and thoughtful risk-taking are actively encouraged. We are committed to providing a supportive environment in which both pupils and staff can flourish.Key ResponsibilitiesBehaviourLead on the implementation and consistent application of the school’s Positive Behaviour Policy.Monitor and analyze behaviour data to identify trends and support early intervention.Support staff in managing behaviour positively, providing coaching and modelling effective strategies.Lead staff CPD on behaviour and pastoral strategies.Work collaboratively with the SENDCo and safeguarding team where behaviour overlaps with SEND or wellbeing concerns.Take a proactive role in promoting restorative approaches to behaviour management.Safeguarding· Support the Deputy Head (Pastoral) in embedding a strong culture of safeguarding across EY1 to Year 2.· Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) where required, responding promptly to concerns in line with school policy.· Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are consistently implemented by all staff.· Maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records and ensure timely reporting and follow-up.· Work in partnership with staff, parents and external agencies to support vulnerable pupils and enable early intervention.· Provide guidance and training support to staff to ensure vigilance
