Job SummaryDiscovery College is searching for an exceptional educator to fill the position of DP Chemistry/MYP Teacher of Science position. Successful appointees will teach IB Diploma Chemistry at both higher and standard level, as well as MYP Science (integrated). The ability to teach a subject outside of the sciences will be an advantage. Teachers teach a range of student abilities and classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their curriculum. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection in order to improve their knowledge and skills to better engage students and improve their learning.Main AccountabilitiesUse own professional role to ensure that the College is able to deliver on the 5 DC Outcomes for every studentPlan lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students’ individual learning needs and to ensure students’ progressionUse a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and learning and classroom managementUse flexible groupings and structured inquiry to deliver high quality lessons in line with the IBO philosophyMaintain a well organised and stimulating learning environmentUse learning technologies to enhance learningUse information about prior attainment to set expectations for studentsUse a range of assessment and reporting methods that make students’ achievement visible in relation to learning outcomesProvide clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents and caregiversPlan and engage in professional learning activities that support College and systemic prioritiesTake responsibility for own professional development and use the outcomes to improve teaching and students’ learningMake an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the CollegeEnsure administration of classroom procedures is completed efficientlyCollaborate positively with members of the school community to build a team environment that supports students’ learningParticipate in Quality Assurance and School Improvement in order to ensure high standards of professional practice and student outcomesUtilise the Professional Reflection and Development processto ensure own professional development and support for organisational prioritiesContribute to the wider life of the College including through the co-curricular programme and offsite activitiesSupport the academic, pastoral and co-curricular work of the schoolAs required as a Class Teacher or Learning Advisor, provide care and support for students to ensure all students make excellent progress and have the opportunity to flourishPerform other duties which may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the Principal or his/her delegate.Additionally, the successful candidate will also be expected to have a significant impact on the College’s extra-curricular programme, and one opportunity to do this is in relation to sports. A wide range of sports are played at the College, both competitively and for leisure, including badminton, basketball, cross-country, cricket, football, golf, netball, rugby, swimming and volleyball.
