This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role leading safeguarding at of one of the UK’s leading schools, shaping a culture where every pupil is known, protected and able to thrive.As Designated Safeguarding Lead you will have responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across Uppingham School, including online safety. Working closely with the Headmaster, senior leaders, pastoral teams, boarding houses, healthcare professionals and external agencies, you will oversee safeguarding concerns, manage referrals, support complex cases and ensure pupils receive timely, child-centred protection and care.This is also a strategic leadership role, with the opportunity to shape safeguarding culture, strengthen systems and drive continuous improvement across a busy 24/7 boarding environment. You will lead on policy development, training, quality assurance and safeguarding audits, while supporting colleagues to ensure safeguarding is understood and embedded across the school as everyone’s responsibility.About youYou will bring significant safeguarding and child protection experience, together with up-to-date knowledge of statutory safeguarding guidance and the confidence to manage complex cases with sound professional judgement. You will also need the ability to make clear, child-centred decisions under pressure, balancing empathy, resilience and integrity in sensitive situations.Just as importantly, you will be able to lead, support and challenge colleagues across the school, communicating effectively with pupils, staff, parents and external agencies.
