Deputy Head of Academics (Primary)The Royal Grammar School Guildford Qatar (RGSGQ) is a through school from EY1 to Year 12. The Primary School has a thriving three- to four-form entry with approximately 570 pupils.Purpose of this role:The Deputy Head (Academic) will provide strategic leadership of teaching and learning across the Primary phase, ensuring the highest standards of academic provision and pupil outcomes. The role involves leading on curriculum development, assessment and data analysis, and driving continuous school improvement in line with the school’s vision and values.The successful candidate will support, challenge and develop staff through effective coaching and professional development, fostering a culture of collaboration, high expectations and reflective practice. They will ensure consistency and progression across year groups, promoting engaging, inclusive and well-sequenced learning experiences for all pupils.Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the Deputy Head (Academic) will play a key role in monitoring teaching and learning, evaluating impact and implementing evidence-informed strategies to raise attainment.The Deputy Head (Academic) will be an organized, proactive and solution-focused leader, capable of managing whole-school initiatives, leading change effectively and contributing to the wider strategic direction of the school.This is a non-class-based role, with strategic leadership responsibilities, alongside teaching commitments to support and cover middle leaders.RGSGQ is a vibrant and happy learning community where creativity, innovation and thoughtful risk-taking are actively encouraged. We are committed to providing a supportive environment in which both pupils and staff can flourish.Key Responsibilities:Academic Leadership:· Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the academic curriculum (EYFS to Key Stage 2), ensuring it is engaging, inclusive, and aligned with UK standards.· Monitor teaching and learning standards across the school, providing clear guidance, coaching, and support to staff.· Coordinate internal and external assessments.· Ensure academic policies, planning, and delivery support outstanding teaching and learning across all year groups.· Oversee the implementation and review of schemes of work, subject frameworks, and curriculum maps.· Ensure continuity and progression across key stages, including effective transition planning between year groupsAssessment and Pupil Progress:· Lead the whole-school approach to formative and summative assessment, ensuring effective tracking of student progress and attainment.· Analyse assessment data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for intervention or enrichment and drive improvement.· Work with teachers to develop action plans for supporting underachieving students or extending higher achievers.· Coordinate internal and external assessments.· Ensure consistency in marking, moderation, and reporting.Staff Development and Support:· Provide professional leadership and guidance to teaching staff, supporting high-quality instructional practices.· Mentor and support teaching staff in planning, differentiation, classroom management, and professional development.· Organise, deliver and evaluate CPD programmes focused on improving pedagogy and curriculum delivery.· Conduct regular lesson observations and provide constructive feedback and coaching to foster continuous improvement.· Oversee new or early-career teachers.· Contribute to performance management processes.Curriculum and Innovation:· Oversee curriculum planning and cross-curricular integration to ensure a broad and balanced learning experience.· Support cross-curricular initiatives and special events
