Working in a non-judgemental, supportive and solution-focused way, you will empower parents and carers to access the right support and make the most of the opportunities available to their child. You will be a calm, approachable presence within the school, working closely with pastoral, behaviour and safeguarding teams to ensure families feel listened to, informed and supported in line with the school’s ethos and values.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as the main point of contact for families requiring additional support, building strong, trusting relationships that encourage positive engagement with the school. This includes maintaining regular communication, carrying out home visits where appropriate, and providing early engagement opportunities for families prior to a child joining the school.Coordinate and contribute to multi-agency support by completing referrals, signposting families to external services, liaising professionally with partner agencies, and attending meetings to support joined-up planning and positive outcomes for pupils and families.Play a key role in safeguarding and pastoral support across the school, acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, maintaining accurate and confidential records, and ensuring all case notes and documentation meet safeguarding and policy requirements.Build positive relationships with pupils, providing consistent, individualised support that promotes inclusion, independence, self-esteem and engagement in learning. This includes contributing to Individual Education Plans and Behaviour Plans, providing feedback on progress, and using specialist skills or training to meet individual needs.Support wider operational and wellbeing needs, including assisting with medication administration, supporting pupil transport arrangements, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.About YouGCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at minimum Level 4 (Grade C)Relevant degreeeCompassionate and empathetic communicator with a genuine commitment to supporting families through challenging circumstancesStrong interpersonal and listening skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalismConfident in managing complex caseloads, prioritising effectively, and maintaining accurate recordsKnowledge of safeguarding procedures and the ability to respond appropriately to concernsAble to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including schools, social services, and community organisationsResilient and adaptable, with the ability to remain calm under pressureCommitted to equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring all families feel respected and supportedProactive in identifying needs and signposting families to relevant support servicesAbout UsOpened in 2018, The Wenlock School is a co-educational day school for pupils aged 7–18 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, autism, and associated learning differences.We are building an Outstanding provision – a school that transforms lives through creativity, care, and commitment.
