Job overviewThe British Schools, Montevideo is seeking to appoint an outstanding Head of Secondary to lead our Senior School into its next phase of development. About the roleThe Head of Secondary is the academic and administrative leader of the Senior School, with responsibility for more than 600 students in Years 7–12 within a whole-school community of almost 1,500 students and 300 staff. The post reports directly to the Principal and forms part of the Senior Leadership Team.The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Secondary School, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning, strong academic outcomes, effective curriculum design, robust student tracking, and a deep commitment to student and staff wellbeing. The role also carries significant responsibility for line management, professional development, policy implementation, safeguarding and the wider life of the school.We are looking for a leader who:has substantial senior leadership experience in a school offering international examinations, particularly IB, with broader IB continuum experience desirable brings a strong academic vision and the ability to lead curriculum development, timetable oversight and improvement planning uses data intelligently to monitor student progress and drive high standards combines strong organisational skills with excellent interpersonal judgement and a genuine understanding of people values the importance of student and staff wellbeing alongside academic excellence is committed to safeguarding, child protection and positive behaviour for learning is excited by the opportunity to represent the School within the community and contribute fully to its wider life and traditionsEssential / preferred qualifications and experienceMaster’s degree in education preferred UK teaching qualification or national equivalent Complete fluency in English; working knowledge of Spanish preferred At least five years’ experience in leadership roles in schools offering international examinations and/or IB programmes, with experience in developing programmes across the IB continuumWhy join The British Schools?This is an opportunity to join a school with a long-standing reputation for excellence, a deeply rooted mission, and a commitment to developing self-confident, creative, discerning and fully bilingual students.
