The Opportunity (Overview of the role) The Higher Education and Careers Counsellor plays a vital role in guiding students through their post-secondary education and career decisions. They provide tailored advice and support to help students explore university options, career pathways, and skill development opportunities, ensuring they make informed choices about their future.Responsibilities/duties: Provide personalised guidance and support to students on university applications, career pathways, subject choices, and post-school opportunities.Conduct individual and group counselling sessions to assist students in identifying suitable universities, courses, and career options.Guide students through the university application process, including personal statements, essays, interviews, and financial aid applications.Advise on international application systems such as UCAS, Common App, ATAC, OUAC, and other regional admissions platforms.Support students applying for scholarships, grants, and other financial aid opportunities by ensuring they meet eligibility and submission requirements.Maintain updated knowledge of global higher education trends, admission requirements, and industry developments to provide informed counselling.Plan and execute university visits, career fairs, industry talks, and networking events to expose students to diverse higher education and employment opportunities.Develop and deliver taught programmes and workshops which supports students’ higher education and careers education.Coordinate and support the HE team in writing university references. This includes supporting staff training where appropriate and managing the quality assurance process by updating, editing, proofing and re-drafting references.Create, update and disseminate resources and online platforms to support studentsEstablish and maintain relationships with universities, employers, industry partners, and professional organisations to enhance student opportunities.Engage with parents and guardians to provide insights and guidance on higher education and career planning for their children.Work closely with teachers and school leadership to align academic pathways with students’ university and career aspirations.Support students with securing work experience placements, internships, and mentorship opportunities with industry professionals.Develop and implement policies related to higher education and careers counselling, ensuring alignment with best practices and school objectives.Provide support to students,
