Tes is supporting the appointment of a SENCO to join a school based in Newbury, West Berkshire.Job Vacancy: SENCOHours: 40 hours per weekReports to: Executive Head TeacherDBS: Enhanced DBS check required About the RoleThe school is looking for a dedicated and experienced SENCO to join their team. Working in close partnership with the Executive Headteacher and Heads of School, you will shape and lead their SEND provision across the school community, ensuring their most vulnerable pupils receive the tailored support they need to access education and thrive. Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain and manage the SEND register and student recordsLead on the access arrangements process for internal and public examinationsMonitor and evaluate the quality of SEND teaching and learningWrite and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) with teaching staffLiaise with external agencies including speech and language, occupational therapy, medical and social servicesCommunicate effectively with parents and carers about their child’s progress and supportContribute to school leadership, development planning and self-evaluationManage the SEND departmental budgetEnsure all safeguarding procedures are followed and concerns reported appropriately What They Are Looking ForEssential:Degree or equivalent qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)NASENCO qualification or NPQ (National Professional Qualification post September 2024)Proven SEND teaching experienceExperience working with pupils with ASD, ADHD and cognitive or communication delayKnowledge of exam access arrangementsUnderstanding of child safeguarding and relevant legislationStrong behaviour management skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsCalm, resilient and patient with strong time management skills Desirable:Experience preparing IEPs and managing annual reviewsExperience working with Local AuthoritiesKnowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its statutory frameworks Working pattern and benefits Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.00pm, with minimal after-hours commitmentsFriday afternoons are CPD time with no students on site, plus 10 INSET days across the yearTherapeutic reflection and twice-daily briefings to support strong practice and consistencyRegular offsite outdoor learning and enrichment sessionsHot lunch cooked on site every dayOpportunities to collaborate across West Berkshire and with their partnership school, sharing expertise and best practiceLife insurance (death in service) – 4x basic annual salaryHealth cash plan (Health Shield) (after probation/eligibility applies)Training and development – induction and mandatory training, plus CPD, therapeutic support and further qualificationsFree holiday accommodation – company holiday home on south coastDiscounts – Blue Light Card + local partner discountsEmployee Assistance Programme (EAP) – free, confidential 24/7 support helplineCompany pension with award winning provider and enhanced employer contributionsCompany sick pay scheme available after 6 months’ serviceElectric car scheme + Cycle to Work – salary sacrifice optionsRecognition – Employee of the Month + long service awardsDiscounted driving lessons with local instructorReferral bonus scheme – financial incentives for successful referrals (criteria apply) Equality and Diversity The school is committed to being an organisation where people can be their authentic selves in a safe and inclusive environment.
