Hartland International School seeks to appoint an exceptional Teacher of English to support our expansion and provision across this phase of the school. By being ambitious, not only for students but for yourself, you will help us build and maintain a successful programme of study in English by sharing in the responsibility for teaching, learning, enrichment and pastoral care. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to our unique and strong enrichment programme which ensures that learning and opportunity are diverse for all. At Hartland, English is taught at all Key Stages with an aim to spark a love for reading, writing and thinking critically. Years 7 to 9 have a rich and diverse curriculum using texts from around the world to develop skills that are foundational in the English National Framework. We believe that our KS3 curriculum is the vehicle for establishing a love of literature and inspiring young students to engage with the power of English. In Year 10 and 11, students follow the Edexcel IGCSE specification for both English Language and Literature. There are optional pathways for selected students to solely study Language or to sit the ESL paper. Currently at A Level, we offer the Edexcel English Literature specification only, although we would welcome candidates who can offer English Language, or the Lit-Lang combined course as further options in the future. As a department we pride ourselves on the excellent results and qualifications that our students achieve but also the passion and love they develop for our subject. As a department and a school, we believe that students learning does not just occur in a classroom and feel that students benefit immensely from outdoor and extra-curricular education. We offer a range of enrichment activities such as debating club, the school newspaper, creative writing clubs and reading for pleasure sessions. Every year we work closely with Emirates Literature Festival to organise a range of trips that celebrate literacy as well as looking out for trips in our wider community that may inspire writing or wider contextual knowledge of our curriculum. We want to encourage students to understand the fundamentality of English at the core of so many other aspects of their learning and knowledge by making connections with other subjects and wider world experiences.
