This is far more than a support role — it’s your chance to make a real, lasting difference in the lives of young people with additional needs.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport pupils individually and in groups, helping them develop literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skillsAssist in planning and delivering engaging lessons and learning activitiesImplement positive behaviour strategies and maintain a calm, encouraging classroom environmentPrepare classroom resources and support enrichment activities and school tripsMaintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviourWork closely with teachers, therapy staff, and pastoral teams to provide consistent supportSupervise pupils during break and lunch periodsYou’ll be part of a nurturing, inclusive environment, helping each pupil grow in confidence, independence, and learning.Who We’re Looking ForWe’re seeking candidates who are:Experienced in working with children or young people, ideally in a school or SEN settingAdaptable, compassionate, and proactive, able to respond to individual needsConfident and comfortable supporting both structured lessons and creative, outdoor learningTeam-focused, collaborative, and willing to contribute ideas and energy to the wider school communityMost importantly, motivated by a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of young people with additional needs.About UsStrawberry Lane School is a brand-new specialist school in Bowburn, Durham, supporting 60 pupils aged 11–19 with autism, communication needs, and additional complex needs.
