Details of Position We seek a native or near native English teacher with CELTA, YL specialization, degree and an EU passport who is enthusiastic, professional, and would like to further their career at our school. The job requires teaching childrens courses (30%), adult (40%), companies (30%) both in presence and online. The childrens classes include primary, teenagers, and very YL (3-6 with ENGLISH IS FUN! training provided). As we are the Cambridge centre for the area, many of our courses are exam prep. We welcome Cambridge examiners. He/she would teach individuals and groups, Business English in companies, General English, exam preparation classes (PET, FCE, CAE, CPE preparation) and conversation classes in the evenings, children/teen courses in the afternoon (YLE, KET, PET, FCE, CAE). The School Anderson House was established in 1996 by Peter Anderson. Peter taught as a freelance from 1978 to 1982. He was then emploeyed by a quality private language school in Bergamo and taught there from 1982 to 1990. From 1991 he worked as the DoS at the same school until 1996 when he left to open his own school. AH has been an ‘srl’ (limited company) since 2006. The school is on the outskirts of Bergamo – in Curno, the commercial part of Bergamo – with plenty of free parking. We have a DoS, ten English teachers plus four for other languages. Our turnover is appr Euro 1,200,000 of which 30% is courses (20% adults, 15% children, 5% companies), 70% exams. We have nine classrooms, a computer room, a resource room for teachers, 3 offices and a waiting room. The school is run by the owner Peter Anderson, his wife Antonella Ottonelli, a commercial manager, a marketing manager, a front office secretary, and two members of staff who work full-time for the Cambridge exams. Some of the work is in companies in the vicinities of the school (10 to 25 min drive). We have 2 school cars. If you have your own, it would be ideal for us as we pay for transfer at ACI rates. Moreover, it would be convenient for you if you want to go sightseeing in the area at weekends. Bergamo Bergamo has an international airport which serves low-cost airlines (the North Italian Ryanair hub). It is in the centre of Lombardy, near the north Italian lakes, the Alps and Milan (30 miles). It is part of an industrial belt that goes from Varese through Milan, on to Bergamo and Brescia – but has plenty of countryside, hills and beautiful mountains. Bergamo has a medieval Upper Town called Citta Alta surrounded by Venetian walls; a magnificent Renaissance square (Piazza Vecchia) and one of the top-ten provincial museums in Italy called Pinacoteca Carrara which has recently been refurbished. If you are interested in food, Italy is the place to be; there are excellent restaurants and pizzerias in Bergamo and the surrounding area and good wine. Atalanta – the Bergamo football team – are in Serie A, therefore you can see top-class football here. Bergamo also has a women’s volleyball team; an American Football team (Lions), and are crazy about cycling: the Giro d’Italia is very popular here. As for rugby you need to go to Brescia which is nearby. There is also a piano festival and Bergamo is the birthplace of Donizetti. The Bergamasks describe themselves as (in Bergamasque): ‘Rasa bergamasca, fiama de rar, sota la sender brasca’ – “The Bergamasque race, seldom ablaze, under the ashes embers” that is a quiet, introvert people of Alpine stock – somewhat rugged and grim at times, but once they get to know you, they become friends for life. Bergamasks are famous in Italy for being extremely hard-working and love manufacturing things. Industry is well developed here (steel and mechanical industry, seamless tubes, cement, tractors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, electrical components, furniture, looms, textile, etc). Most of our client companies are Bergamasque SMEs. Qualifications Cambridge CELTA Qualifications We require an English native or near native speaker with a degree, CELTA, specialization in YL and 2-years experience in a reputable language school. EU passport essential and CELTA or equivalent essential (please do NOT apply if you do not hold the latter two). We welcome teachers with an interest in intercultural communication and soft skills; knowledge of Italian useful; driving license and being a capable driver essential (do NOT apply if you are NOT an experienced driver, please, as some driving is involved); owning a car very useful as Bergamo is a small town and public transport is limited. Salary and Benefits Salary and Benefits Salary depending on experience and starting at euro 1,400 net plus severance pay at the end of the contract (roughly euro 900). ANINSEI 100-hour-a-month teaching contract from 21 September 2026 to 12 June 2027. We may have work until end of June as we have a Summer Camp with English, golf, climbing and drama. If you use your own car, we pay 0.50/km. We may have some work in the summer if interested, however ideal for those who work in summer schools in the UK. Full access to internet in the resource room.
