EAL Teacher Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide meaningful, intentional learning opportunities aligned with practice, standards, and learning outcomes of YC Curriculum, along with Organisation’s Mission, Principles and Practices; Actively participate in collaborative EAL team meetings and year level team meetings with a growth mindset and focus on improving learning for all students; Partner with SSS team, counselor, SLT, and other staff to ensure care and support for the social, emotional and learning success of EAL students; Assess student learning and provide timely, quality feedback to parents and students to improve future learning; Adjust learning needs based on students’ using a data informed approach Plans, assesses and supports students’ learning and progress with regard to the school’s policies, curriculum requirements, plus monitoring and tracking data on ManageBac; Models the skills and attitudes of a global citizen by seeking to understand and respond positively to the cultural differences in value systems and societal norms of the EAL students and their families; Provides examination/test assistance for EAL students where needed; Liaises with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when transferring EAL students; Provide training, resources, and guidance to staff on best practices to support second language learners for both Western & Chinese staff; Support Head of English/EAL leader to make bilingual English language materials and resources to meet the specific needs of EAL students; Orders resources to support curriculum plan and learning needs of EAL students. General Skills, Qualifications and Expectations: Holds the minimum requirement of a Bachelor Degree in Education / PGCE / PGDE Masters in EAL credentials (e.g. TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or equivalent); Have a minimum of 5 years full-time teaching in a school setting; Proficient in Chinese & English with excellent interpersonal skills (bilingual written skills and trilingual communication skills) will be priority considered Understands the value of generating positive professional relationships and partnerships with colleagues, students, parents/families and the wider school community; Have experience with, and a belief in, an inquiry approach to teaching and learning; Have experience using data to inform instruction through Professional Development; Have experience assessing language proficiency and using WIDA data to track growth; Demonstrate skill at differentiating instruction and using translanguaging strategies to support diverse learners; Can work in a highly collaborative learning and organisational culture which values a team approach when planning and providing learning experiences which are engaging, challenging, supportive and inclusive; Consults with the School Leadership Team (SLT) and/or Child Protection Team as appropriate and necessary in matters affecting the welfare and safeguarding of students; Contributes to the school’s extracurricular/ enrichment programmes and to the wider school development and growth. “We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all the students in our care and expect all applicants to share this commitment.
