Every day, you’ll be a trusted adult, positive role model and source of encouragement for young people with additional needs, helping them build confidence, regulate emotions and develop the skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you’ll provide high-quality pastoral care and emotional support to students, promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing, attendance and engagement across the school.Working closely with teaching staff, therapists and families, you’ll help remove barriers to learning and support students to navigate challenges with confidence. Whether you’re helping a student through a difficult moment, supporting them during enrichment activities or celebrating their progress, you’ll make a genuine and lasting difference every single day.What You’ll Be DoingSupport students with their social, emotional and mental health needs to enable successful engagement in education.Build positive, professional relationships that promote confidence, resilience, independence and self-esteem.Work collaboratively with education, pastoral and therapy teams to provide consistent support for every student.Help students develop positive behaviours and self-regulation strategies through restorative and trauma-informed approaches.Support students during periods of dysregulation, anxiety or crisis in line with Behaviour Support Plans and risk assessments.Accompany and support students during educational visits, community activities and enrichment opportunities.Provide support during unstructured times, including arrivals, departures, breaktimes, lunchtimes and transitions.Maintain accurate records relating to behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and engagement, contributing to reviews and meetings as required.Liaise effectively with colleagues and professionals to ensure a joined-up approach to student support.Safeguard and promote the welfare, safety and wellbeing of every student at all times.About YouWe’re looking for someone who is:Passionate about supporting young people to overcome challenges and achieve their potential.Calm, caring and emotionally resilient, with a positive and nurturing approach.An excellent communicator who builds trusting relationships with students and colleagues.Confident supporting students with SEMH, SEND, autism and behaviours that challenge.Able to remain composed during challenging situations and support students to regulate effectively.Organised and confident maintaining accurate records and documentation.A proactive team player who thrives in a dynamic school environment.Committed to safeguarding, professional development and continuous learning.Full UK Driving LicenceAbout Us Norton College is a specialist independent provider that aims to positively support young people who have a range of complex learning needs through vocational courses and bespoke learning packages.Acorn Education offers rewarding careers and meaningful challenges while making a real difference in young people’s lives.
