The Bucksmore Academic Manager is a key member of the head office operations team and is primarily responsible for the production and delivery of all academic content across all Bucksmore programmes. This includes all summer programmes, year-round home tuition courses, offseason groups, and ongoing digital courses. Please refer to our websites and brochures for a full overview of all Bucksmore products. In a typical, year we welcome over 1,500 students throughout the year on a wide range of courses. The nature of the role within a small operations team means that the Academic Manager will have input into the successful delivery of all aspects of all Bucksmore programmes, ensuring they are delivered to the highest possible standard, and in compliance with British Council guidelines and other accrediting bodies where applicable. The Academic Manager is required to be TEFLQ to meet British Council guidelines for our EFL programmes, but Bucksmore also provides courses ranging from leadership skills to university preparation and academic subjects at school and university level. The role therefore requires wide academic interest, and the ability to contribute and apply skills to different academic disciplines. The role would suit a dynamic individual, perhaps a newly qualified TEFLQ manager who is looking to develop their academic management skills across a wide range of academic areas. Summer months are typically very busy with long days, weekend work, and constant travel between centres. TOIL is offered during the quieter months from September Academic Management Quality control the academic content of all Bucksmore programmes Write and develop academic materials and syllabi for existing courses, including material for EFL courses, Young Professionals; Pre-University, and exam preparation programmes Contribute to the development of new online & face-to-face courses Update summer material annually. The Young Professionals syllabus is created close to summer to ensure it is as relevant as possible Interview and recruit Directors of Studies for all summer programmes, with direct line management of these seasonal employees over the busy summer months Create and lead the academic induction for all teaching and academic management staff over the summer Implement academic management procedures and administrative systems Manage the academic delivery of remote home tuition teachers throughout the year, providing academic support as required Produce and enact a thorough CPD plan for all teachers over the summer, and year-round for home tuition teachers Source and vet external academic suppliers for digital courses and all summer programmes, including but not limited to workshops in STEM, coding,medicine, performing arts, and engineering Update and write handbooks for home tutors, summer Counsellors (teachers), Directors of Studies, and other centre management staff Ensure Bucksmore keeps and gains further academic Strengths in upcoming British Council inspections for summer programmes and home tuition Stay up to date with latest academic trends in both EFL and further education, and update Bucksmore courses accordingly. Work with industry networks such as LonDoSa etc. Assist the Bucksmore commercial team with applications and testing for any programmes with academic entry requirements Produce material, share best practices, and coordinate as appropriate with Nord Anglia colleagues Work with academic colleagues from our Nord Anglia Schools & Colleges to produce material for pre-sessional and school holiday programmes designed for students at UK independent schools General Duties Assist with the ongoing diversification of the Bucksmore portfolio Work as part of a wider operations team delivering all Bucksmore programmes, and lend assistance throughout the year as required Work closely with the Operations Manager and Recruitment Accurate and detailed information provided to staff members regarding delivering a Bucksmore programme High student feedback from their programme experience Obtaining all information/resources in good time Work within defined annual budgets to deliver programmes Meet agents and parents and represent Bucksmore as a brand when required. The Academic Manager often leads face-to-face and digital workshops throughout the year for diverse audiences to promote Bucksmore programmes Provide any additional support necessary to management teams at Bucksmore centres during the summer Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students according to Bucksmore safeguarding policies Assist the Bucksmore senior management team with any other ad-hoc tasks that arise throughout the year Qualifications Cambridge DELTA Functional Expertise- Experience of dealing with young learners in a residential setting Knowledge of the independent school, and university sectors in the UK Experience of teacher training and / or managing small teams Experience in content management and creation tools such as Adobe CC Familiarity with ESP in wider academic settings Experience of inspections with BC / other industry bodies Operational Expertise – Hold a Trinity Dip. TESOL or DELTA and/or MA TESOL qualification Ideally, experience of working in a summer school / academic short-course environment Personal Specifications- High levels of personal integrity Conscientious and able to focus on completing work to a consistently high standard Flexible and positive approach to work Excellent organisational and time-management skills; high attention to detail Friendly and efficient even when under pressure Ability to work to tight deadlines and able to prompt others to ensure deadlines are achieved Adaptable to working in a fast paced, ever-changing environment Proactive and willingness to take on multiple tasks Self-motivated and enthusiastic Ability to work independently Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations. Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures. Excellent analytical skills with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success. Results orientated with the ability to consistently map efforts against identified KPIs. Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks. Youd like to work in a purpose-led sector.
