Shape mathematical thinking.Wellington School is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic Head of Mathematics to lead our highly successful department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious teacher with the ability to teach Mathematics across the 11 – 18 age range, including A Level and Further Mathematics.The successful applicant will join a happy, experienced and successful department, working closely with colleagues to support pupils’ learning across the whole school. As Head of Department, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of Mathematics, ensuring schemes of learning remain current, engaging and effective. You will also lead on the analysis of student performance data to implement targeted intervention strategies that drive progress and raise attainment.This role will involve developing and leading a rich programme of academic enrichment beyond the classroom, including clubs, trips, national competitions and other opportunities that foster a love of Mathematics.We are looking for a skilled and experienced teacher with excellent communication and organisational skills, capable of leading one of the largest academic departments in the School. The successful candidate will bring energy, flexibility and expertise to the role, alongside a strong commitment to delivering outstanding academic outcomes.About the Mathematics DepartmentThe Mathematics Department consists of eight dedicated teachers who bring a wide range of experience and expertise. The department is well-resourced, with seven specialist teaching rooms and a central staff workroom. All classrooms are equipped with Clevertouch interactive whiteboards, and staff benefit from access to a wide range of high-quality teaching resources, including subscriptions to Dr Frost Maths, Integral and Go Teach Maths.The CurriculumAn objective-based scheme of work is followed throughout Years 7, 8 and 9, with content drawn from the Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A specification (up to Grade 6).At Key Stage 4, students follow the Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A course, with all pupils entered for the Higher Tier examination at the end of Year 11.Mathematics is a highly popular subject at A Level, with a significant proportion of students studying both Mathematics and Further Mathematics (Edexcel). Students are encouraged to extend their learning through participation in UKMT Maths Challenges, lectures and other enrichment opportunities.Teaching:Students receive six one-hour lessons per fortnight and are grouped according to ability, attainment and potential. There are three teaching groups in Years 7 and 8, and five to six groups in Years 9 – 11. Setting arrangements are reviewed regularly using common assessments and teacher recommendations.Students are taught by a range of teachers in Years 7 – 9, before being taught by a single teacher during their GCSE course. In the Sixth Form, students receive ten lessons per fortnight, typically shared between two specialist teachers.Results:We are extremely proud of our strong academic record and our commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.62% of A Level Mathematics students achieved grades A*- B50% of Further Mathematics students achieved grades A*- A36% of IGCSE students
