St Swithun’s School, Winchester, is seeking to appoint a committed and flexible Management Accountant to play a key role in supporting the full range of finance activities across the school. St Swithun’s is a leading GSA and HMC independent girls’ school, offering day and boarding education, with an adjoining IAPS prep school. Set in a beautiful 45-acre campus on the edge of Winchester, the school combines academic ambition with strong pastoral care, high-performance learning and a warm, values-led community. The role Reporting to the Head of Finance and working closely with the wider Bursary team, the Management Accountant will help deliver a high quality, professional finance service across: The Senior and Prep Schools.The school’s letting company subsidiary.The Bramston Foundation charity. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys a varied role in a busy and dynamic environment and who takes pride in providing accurate, thoughtful and timely financial support. Key responsibilities include: Preparation of monthly and termly management accounts.Month end processes including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations. Budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and financial modelling.Monitoring fee income, bursaries and scholarships. Preparation of statutory accounts and liaison with external auditors. VAT returns, compliance and VAT recovery reviews. Payroll oversight and support for payroll processing. Supporting budget holders and senior leaders with financial information and decision-making. Identifying and implementing improvements to financial processes and controls. The successful candidate will have: A recognised accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent). Strong experience in management accounting and statutory accounts preparation.Sound knowledge of VAT and compliance in a regulated environment. Experience of budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis. Excellent communication and relationship building skills.A high level of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.Experience in a school or charitable environment is desirable but not essential. Terms and benefits Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum (depending on experience).Hours: 08:30–17:00, Monday to Friday (with a half-hour unpaid lunch break).
