Hartland International School seeks to appoint an exceptional Teacher of Secondary Music to support our expansion and provision across this phase of the school. The Post Due to our expansion applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals who are passionate and forward-thinking and who will thrive in the vibrant learning environment of Hartland. By being ambitious, not only for students but for yourself, you will help us build and maintain a successful programme of study in Music by sharing in the responsibility for teaching, learning, enrichment and pastoral care. The successful candidate will also be expected to make a contribution to our unique and strong enrichment programme which ensures that learning and opportunity are diverse for all. There is a possibility that there will be a Head of Department position available for the right candidate.Music is taught from Year 1 to 13. In Primary we follow an instrument-based curriculum where students are taught the basics of music reading and writing through instrument learning, the ukulele in year 3, Recorder in Year 4 and Violin in years 5 and 6. In Secondary, we follow a modified version of the Key Stage 3 Curriculum, leading to Edexcel GCSE Music and A Level.Music is taught in a purpose-built department, with 3 teaching rooms, 8 practice rooms and a Mac lab used for Music Technology. The school also has a state of the art 600 seat theatre where most of our performances take place. We currently run a Winter and Summer concert series where all students from Year 1 to Year 9 perform on stage.Music outside the classroom is very important at Hartland, and we have thriving extra-curricular scene. Our main focus is on singing, and we have a Primary choir of over 100 students, as well as an audition only choir ‘Hartmonies’ for students in these year groups. These choirs perform across Dubai and we are very proud to be the reigning ‘Junior Choir of the Year’ at the prestigious ChoirFest competition. We also have a Secondary choir, as well as ensembles and bands. Twice a year, we work with the Drama department and perform a musical (one for Primary and one for Secondary). Previous performances have included; Matilda Jr, Little Shop of Horrors, Madagascar Jr and School of Rock.The successful candidate will:Hold a relevant degree and teaching qualificationHave experience of teaching Music in the UK or in an international settingHave a minimum two years teaching experience Have exceptional communication skillsBe committed to the Hartland Values which can be found
